High School Spirit

Jo-Lynne had done this and I thought it would be fun to complete b/c our class has started to prepare for our 10 year reunion. Thanks Jo-Lynne. 

1. Who was your best friend?  Lil Mane. That’s who I spent the most time with.

2. Did you play any sports?  Oh now that’s funny.  (That’s a no, in case you weren’t sure.)

3. What kind of car did you drive? That’s funny too, how about that big yellow bus.

4. It’s Friday night. Where were you? At home with the fam.

5. Were you a party animal?  Hahaha.  That’s right up there with “Did you play any sports?”  Um, no.  I was quite the Goody-Two-Shoes in high school.

6. Were you considered a flirt?  Nope. 

7. Were you in the band, orchestra or choir? The choir for 1 year.

8. Were you a nerd? I don’t think so, but I was smart.

9. Were you ever suspended or expelled?  No. 

10. Can you sing the fight song?  I’m not sure we had a fight song.

 

11. Who was your favorite teacher?   Ms. Brown

12. What was your school mascot?  A Bulldog.

13. Did you go to the Prom?  Yep!  I wore a black dress and black heels.

14. If you could go back, would you? Definitely. I miss high school.

15. What do you remember most about graduation? Delivering my speech, I was the salutatorian. I also remember receiving that Huge bouquet of roses. Thanks, Cane. And my parents not being there.

16. Where were you on Senior Skip Day?  Chuck’s and Lil Mane’s.

17. Did you have a job your senior year? No

18. Where did you go most often for lunch?  Ummm… the cafeteria?  Was there anywhere else to go?

19. Have you gained weight since then?  Only 10 lbs

20. What did you do after graduation?  Got to arguing with Lil Mane because he wanted me to go in the Rocking Chair with him and I wasn’t going. After he realized I was serious about not going, he brought me home.

21. What year did you graduate?  1999.

22. Who was your Senior Prom Date? Lil Mane, who else?

23. Are you going/did you go to your 10 year reunion? Yes, I’m going.

Summers Are Not the Same

At church Sabbath I was having a discussion with a fellow church member about whether or not her grandkids were going to be attending summer school. She told me that her youngest grandchild begged her not to make him attend. This didn’t surprise me at all, because how many of us want to attend school year-round? Last year the kids were given laptops if they attended summer school. Even with this incentive, students say no to summer school. When I was in school, and I haven’t been out long,  we got at least two and a half months of summer vacation, now we’re lucky if we get an ENTIRE month. I, along with others, just want my summers back. I mean a true summer. One where I can enjoy and be free for at least TWO WHOLE MONTHS. Who agrees with me?

Touching You, Touches Me

As a teacher I cnstantly think to myself if I have touched a child’s life in a positive way. Yesterday a former student visited me and she reminded me of how little things that I may not necessarily see as important can mean the world or make a difference in a life. She did say that she loved the projects we did in class and enjoyed me as a teacher. That little comment from her, innocent and all, meant so much to me. Sometimes we need confirmation that we are doing great in our respective careers and I’m grateful that I am able to touch and change lives.
